Putah creek remains a somewhat mystery that has frustrated even the most seasoned anglers for years. With its close proximity to Sacramento and San Francisco, trophy sized rainbow trout, and beautiful scenery, you'd think pictures of grip and grins with huge fish would be flooding social media day in and day out. Not the case. Notoriously fickle and hatch specific, these wary rainbows don't give themselves up easily, and the terrain isn't always as gentle and inviting as it looks. While technically open all year, we stay off the river December through February to allow fish to spawn and continue to populate this amazing wild trout fishery.
Target Species: Trophy Rainbow Trout.
