River Overview

If there was ever a California river to fly under the radar, it's the well known but poorly understood High Flow section of the Feather. A compliment to the better known Low Flow section, the High Flow zone is a steelheader's dream, and an incredible place to stick fish and work on your technique before moving onto more challenging rivers. High numbers of adult and halfpounders hit the net on the High Flow, and the easy access from the levee roads that parallel the river make access easy.

OROVILLE WEATHER
March 18, 2021

It’s go time for the Feather! Flows are steady and the warm days have helped kick off some hatches. As usual, attractor nymphs are the way to go out here, so Amber Wing prince nymphs, copper johns and caddis patterns should find fish. Don’t be afraid of adding weight and drifting your flies through faster water, some of the better steelhead hold in the quick stuff.

Wading

Wading the High Flow Feather is easy at comfortable flows. With much of the river bottom composed of sand and gravel, anglers are able to move freely throughout the area. Be aware of quick flows and move at a comfortable pace.
