River Overview

The North Feather River is an intimidating fishery. While highly visible from Highway 70, access down to the water can be difficult and finding spots to cast can be challenging.

BELDEN WEATHER
May 26, 2020

Hot days mean you’ll want to fish early and late, not necessarily because water temps are out of control but to get a break from the 100 degree afternoons we’ll be facing all week. Prince nymphs, rubberlegs, and caddis pupas will be your best bets in the deeper sections of the river. Stimulators with a copper john as a dropper are working as well when the sun is high. Pack some water and your 5 weight and get out to this great river while it’s good!

Strategy

Guide Tips: Lots of flies are lost on the bottom here, a small tippet ring will help save your leader if you do snag the rocks and break your flies off.

Wading Info

Wading the North Feather River can be highly challenging in certain areas, and downright dangerous in others. The riverbottom is composed mainly of large boulders, and wading off the edge of one of these and into fast water can happen. Move slowly, always use a wading staff and do not wade outside of your comfort zone.
